Habitat for Humanity Macedonia within the project "Promoting housing rights for the Roma", financed by the European Union, held a closing conference "Housing and human rights" on 15th of February in Skopje.

Mr. Nezdet Mustafa, Minister without portfolio, Mr. Ibrahim Ibrahimi, Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Policy, Ms. Irena Ivanova, Task Manager at the Delegation of the European Union and Mr. Zoran Kostov, Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity Macedonia opened the first session of the conference. Тheir speeches were followed by Mr. Jorde Jakimovski, Director of the Institute for Sociological, Political and Juridical Research, who was presenting the issue about poverty housing in Macedonia, and Mr.Gyorgy Sumeqhy, the Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity Hungary, who gave а presentation on the established housing advocacy in Hungary.

The second part of the conference, the participants divided into three work groups. Ms. Mabera Kamberi, Head of the Sector for Coordination and Technical Assistance in the Ministry of Labor and Social Policy, conducted the session on impact of housing on other priorities in the Decade for Roma Inclusion. Mr. Zoran Cali, Administrative Director of the Foundation Open Society - Macedonia (FOSM) held the session where legalization of illegal build structures and housing safety improvement was elaborated, while the third working group with Ms. Liljana Alceva, Deputy Director of program in Habitat for Humanity Macedonia, discussed the "National Study on Housing Poverty in Macedonia".

Representatives of the Delegation of the European Union, the Ministry of Labor and Social Policy, Ministry of Transport and Communications; representatives of the Roma Informative Centers and Roma non-governmental organizations as well as representatives of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) and U.S Agency for International Development (USAID) took part in the working sessions and presentation of the conclusions on the plenary session.
