Energy Efficiency in Focus
HFH Macedonia initiates a new pilot-project focused solely on financing and replacement of the existing energy un-efficient windows and doors, increasing that way the thermo insulation capabilities of the homes of low income families.
With realization of this project the “green” component of Habitat for Humanity Macedonia’s mission will be provided. During the implementation of the activities adequate building materials with good energy characteristics will be used, so to decrease the infiltration of cold air through the windows, reduce the heat loss and increase the efficiency of the heating system. Consequently, beside the decrease of the energy costs of the selected households, the project should contribute towards reduction of the local pollution, joining that way the battle against the global warming.
Implementation of this pilot-project through a housing micro loans model should be organized through the newly developed partnership with several companies specialized in windows and doors production and replacement. The same companies should also serve as financial mediators for financing the interventions, projected to cost between US$1,055 and US$1,583 each.
