Partnering with the Municipality of Karposh
Building 10 on Boulevard “September 8th” in Skopje
On May 6th, Habitat for Humanity Macedonia and the Municipality of Karposh officially launched a partnership that involves energy efficiency upgrades for 112 apartments in apartment building 10 on Boulevard “September 8th” in Skopje. This project is a part of Habitat for Humanity Macedonia’s ongoing Energy Efficient Homes Program through which interventions for 28 apartment units in Kavadarci have already been completed.
The implementation of the partnership project was underway once the Council of the Municipality of Karposh made the official decision to reconstruct the facade of the apartment building which had not been renovated for over 45 years. Habitat for Humanity Macedonia’s participation in the project is focused on financing the replacement of the old windows, which along with the new thermal insulating facade should cut energy consumption by at least 30%. The individual interventions financed by Habitat for Humanity Macedonia will cost between €700 to €1400 per apartment unit.
Energy efficiency interventions are currently the focus of Habitat for Humanity Macedonia’s new program activities. In support of a USAID implemented pilot project, HFHM has already identified three other apartment buildings for interventions that will increase their energy efficiency: two buildings in Skopje, in the municipalities of Gazi Baba and Chair, and one in Kumanovo.
