Healthy and clean water for 120 families
120 families in the municipality of Vasilevo, now successfully connected to the main water supply system, are beneficiaries of our new pilot project aimed towards financing the water supply and sanitation connection for underserved families. An additional 10 families in the village Rasche and 12 families in the village Mamutchevo were also accepted to the program and their connection to the main water supply system is in progress.
The families that are served with this project are those with low income and a large number of members per household. Before becoming Habitat for Humanity Macedonia beneficiaries, these families got their water through individual water pumps that were in dangerous proximity to their septic tanks – a hazardous practice that jeopardizes both individual and public health.
The main goal of the project is to improve the housing conditions of families by providing healthy running water and proper sanitation for their homes on a scale larger than our other programs. Due to the success the Water Supply and Sanitation for the Underserved project had in the summer, we are now in the process of finding ways to scale it up into a full program, so that we can help even more families in need.
